Pv (Photovoltaics)

The abbreviation "PV" is commonly used in a professional context to refer to "photovoltaics" or "photovoltaic". Photovoltaics is a technology and scientific discipline concerned with the conversion of sunlight directly into electricity using photovoltaic cells that exploit the photovoltaic effect.

The photovoltaic effect is the basic operating principle of photovoltaic cells, which are most often made of semiconductor materials such as silicon. These cells generate electricity directly from photons of light with no moving parts or harmful emissions, making them an attractive solution for sustainable energy.

The term "PV" can refer to the technology itself as well as to the devices and systems that use it. PV systems include not only the solar cells or panels themselves, but also other components such as inverters, mounting systems, cabling and control units, which together form a functional system capable of generating, storing and distributing solar energy.
